Physical Education Curriculum Intent

Our physical education curriculum is designed to inspire a lifelong passion for sport, health, and physical activity in our pupils. We aim to empower young people to develop a love for physical activity through the promotion of essential values such as self-belief, respect, determination, honesty, and teamwork.

As a vital component of our curriculum, physical education plays a critical role in promoting the physical, emotional, and social development of our pupils. Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to develop fundamental movement skills, build confidence, and make informed choices about their physical health and wellbeing.

Our physical education curriculum aims to:

  • Foster a love for physical activity and a desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle
  • Develop self-belief and confidence through participation in physical activities
  • Encourage respect for others, themselves, and the environment
  • Cultivate determination and perseverance in overcoming challenges
  • Promote honesty and fair play in all aspects of physical activity
  • Foster teamwork and cooperation through group participation

Our curriculum intends to provide pupils with a comprehensive physical education experience, offering two hours of weekly lessons that are carefully structured to develop a broad range of skills, ensuring the diverse needs of all children are met. Additionally, it aims to equip pupils with the ability to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently, working towards a distance of 25m using various strokes, while also teaching them essential self-rescue techniques for safety in different water-based scenarios.

Beyond curriculum time physical education, we also strive to provide opportunities for children to engage in extracurricular physical activity through a wide range of sports clubs offered before and after school. These clubs enable our children to participate in competitive events outside of school, which reinforces the implementation of essential values such as self-belief, respect, determination, honesty, and teamwork.

Overall, our curriculum to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to lead active, healthy lifestyles and become confident individuals who make positive contributions to their communities.
