PSHE Curriculum Intent
The PSHE curriculum is at the heart of our children’s education at Westminster Primary School. We support our pupils to understand and value how they fit into, and contribute to, the world. Our curriculum enables a holistic approach, focusing on pupils’ well-being and preparation for the challenges of modern life.
Our PSHE curriculum is designed to be inclusive, catering to diverse learning needs and backgrounds and it ensures that every pupil is valued and supported.
We employ a variety of engaging strategies, such as discussions, role plays, ‘calm me’ meditation time and group projects. We teach the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with friends, families and other people that they may meet. We also provide all of our pupils with a clear understanding of risks and dangers that they may face in everyday life. We want to ensure they have the knowledge and skills needed to make safe and informed decisions.
Our curriculum is designed to build progressively each year, deepening pupils’ understanding and skills. This continuity ensures a coherent and comprehensive educational experience from early years through to the end of primary education.
We provide enrichment opportunities beyond the classroom, such as themed days, workshops, and charity days. These experiences broaden pupils’ horizons and deepen their understanding of PSHE topics.
PSHE at Westminster prepares students for future learning and career paths by equipping them with transferable skills such as communication, leadership, and resilience. These skills ensure that students are well-prepared for the dynamic demands of the 21st century.
