Geography Curriculum Intent

Our geography curriculum aims to inspire a lifelong curiosity about the world and its people, fostering a deep understanding of diverse places, cultures, resources, and environments. We believe in making geography accessible and inclusive, promoting cultural understanding through engaging and challenging content.

By engaging with contemporary issues, our pupils gain insights into the challenges and opportunities of our world, preparing them to become informed and active global citizens. Our curriculum is designed to encourage pupils to think like geographers and to apply the skills they have learned in real-world situations.

Pupils develop key geographical knowledge and skills, such as map reading, data interpretation, fieldwork, and spatial awareness, enabling them to think critically about global issues. Our teaching methods allow children to experience enquiry-based learning, hands-on activities and fieldwork.

Enrichment opportunities such as field trips and over-night residentials provide valuable real-world contexts for learning. For example, our hike in the Peak District allows pupils to apply their map skills, helping them navigate through varied terrain and visits to Birmingham City Centre allow pupils to study land use in a local context. These hands-on experiences reinforce the learning that takes place within the classroom and enhances pupils' understanding through practical application.

We strive to ensure that the skills pupils acquire are not only valuable in understanding the world around them but also transferrable to various fields and career paths.
